Chip Phillips
President, TheraCom
Chip Phillips is the President of TheraCom, a CVS Caremark company, which provides various services to biotech pharmaceutical manufacturers to ensure the successful commercialization of their specialty products.
Prior to this role, he held the position of President, MinuteClinic. During his tenure as MinuteClinic President, Chip was instrumental in expanding MinuteClinic services, contracting with third party payors and working with PBM clients to offer new products and services to their plan participants through MinuteClinic.
Before taking on the leadership of MinuteClinic, Chip was Chief Operating Officer for PharmaCare, Inc., directing all operating activity and specialty pharmacy services. Prior to joining CVS Caremark in 2005, Chip was the President of CHD Meridian Healthcare, the largest provider of primary care, occupational care and pharmacy services delivered directly on the campuses of large employers.
In addition, Chip has held various executive level roles in the physician practice management and managed care industries with Health Partners, Inc. and Anthem, Inc., respectively.
Chip began his career with Ernst &Young, spending 9 years in the Healthcare and Healthcare Financing Audit and Consulting practices.
Chip received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Capital University. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a Life Insurance Management Institute Fellow.
Mary Ann Zamula
Vice President, Program Management and Operations
Since joining TheraCom in 1998, Mary Ann Zamula has been instrumental in the growth and development of our business. She has been responsible for directing many product-specific reimbursement hotlines and patient support programs, the reimbursement case management team, and billing and collection efforts. She has been a featured speaker addressing reimbursement issues at many pharmaceutical manufacturer sales meetings, product launches, and conferences. In her current role, Ms. Zamula has responsibility for oversight of program operations and client support for many of our established TheraCom manufacturer-sponsored programs.
Ms Zamula has been involved in solving reimbursement challenges for the pharmaceutical and medical technology industry for most of her career. Prior to joining TheraCom, Ms. Zamula served as Vice President of RESCON, Inc., a consulting firm that assisted pharmaceutical manufacturers with issues related to coverage and payment for new FDA-approved therapies. In that capacity, she worked to promote the addition of products to the formularies maintained by government payers and commercial insurers. Ms. Zamula also designed and managed Reimbursement Hotlines and Patient Assistance Programs that supported a variety of products, with a particular focus on oncology, HIV, and cardiovascular therapies. When RESCON was acquired by PAREXEL, Ms. Zamula became Director of Reimbursement Services at PAREXEL.
Ms. Zamula earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Emory University and her Master of Arts degree in Health Care Administration from George Washington University.
Mark Spotts
Vice President, TheraCom Operations
Mark Spotts is an experienced professional who has worked in the healthcare arena for over 20 years. Mr. Spotts began his healthcare career in the long-term care industry with Healthcare Services Group, Inc. While at Healthcare Services Group, he moved rapidly from an account manager to district manager of the middle-Atlantic region.
In 1993, Mr. Spotts joined Cystic Fibrosis Services, Inc. as an account manager. During this time he was involved in the launch of a breakthrough product to the cystic fibrosis community.
In 1995, Mr. Spotts moved to TheraCom, Inc. and has held several positions including account representative and purchasing manager. In 1997, he was assigned as a Project Manager to co-manage a major TheraCom client account. In November, 1999, Mr. Spotts was assigned to direct the Specialty Drugs Network program. As Program Director, he was responsible for all aspects of the Specialty Drugs Network program development and implementation, overseeing distribution, data collection and day-to-day management.
In 2002, Mr. Spotts was promoted to Assistant Vice President, Client Services, and currently oversees all aspects of several pharmaceutical manufacturer-sponsored service programs administered by TheraCom. In 2008, Mr. Spotts was promoted to Vice President responsible for TheraCom operations. In this role, he oversees all aspects of TheraCom business operations and client relationship management.
Mr. Spotts is a graduate of Delaware Valley College, Doylestown, PA with a degree in Business Administration specializing in marketing.
Jean Dinwiddie, Pharm.D.
Director, Client Services
Since joining TheraCom in 2005, Jean Dinwiddie has served as a clinical pharmacist on the Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension team, and a program manager for a variety of manufacturer-sponsored programs. As Director of Client Services, Dr. Dinwiddie has primary responsibility for oversight and management of RiskMAP/REMS programs.
Prior to her work at TheraCom, Dr. Dinwiddie served as Clinical Program Director for PharmaCare, a pharmacy benefits provider. In this role, her primary job responsibilities were formulary management and program implementation and management. Dr. Dinwiddie chaired the PharmaCare national Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee that established the cost-effective preferred drug list to promote appropriate, effective and safe medication use for patients.
Prior to her role with PharmaCare, Dr. Dinwiddie served as the clinical pharmacy coordinator for the physician group at George Washington University Medical Center, located in Washington, D.C. In addition to her ambulatory care experience, she has taught pharmacology to a broad range of medical students, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants at the University of Maryland, George Washington University, and Marymount University. Dr. Dinwiddie is a published author, serving as principal reviewer and contributing author of Drugs for People Over 50, which was published in conjunction with the editors of the Consumer Guide, and demonstrates her strong interest in geriatrics.
Dr. Dinwiddie received her Doctor of Pharmacotherapy degree from the University of Maryland.
Paul R. Battaglia
Director, Client Services
As Director of Client Services, Paul Battaglia is responsible for the development and implementation of manufacturer-sponsored programs. His role includes the oversight of all program activities including reimbursement, patient assistance, distribution, adherence, nursing coordination, and data management.
After a brief stint as a laboratory technician in a genetic toxicology lab, Mr. Battaglia began his career with TheraCom in 2000. He joined as a Program Specialist where he gained valuable reimbursement knowledge and customer service experience. Building upon this foundation, Mr. Battaglia served in a number of roles with increasing responsibility including Team Leader, Supervisor, and Program Manager for programs in varying disease states.
Mr. Battaglia earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Dickinson College.
Brian Hacker
Director, Client Services
Brian Hacker, a registered pharmacist, has been with CVS Caremark for over 22 years. Throughout this longstanding career, he has served in a management role for mail service operations, retail pharmacy programs, and most recently as a Strategic Account Executive (SAE) for an employer coalition in the Pharmacy Benefits Area.
In his current role as Director of Client Services, Mr. Hacker is accountable for the development and implementation of manufacturer-sponsored programs, including the supervision of all program activities, including reimbursement, patient assistance, distribution, adherence, nursing coordination, and data management.
During his time as an SAE, Mr. Hacker was instrumental in implementing the Diabetes Ten City Challenge, a program requiring detailed review of current utilization across the member companies to identify the location of eligible participants and to insure adequate pharmacist coverage for those enrolled in the program. In this capacity, Mr. Hacker was also responsible for educating and working closely with national employers to analyze prescription drug benefit design/utilization, making recommendations that optimize the benefit for the covered employees and their dependents while maintaining an affordable plan for the employer. Mr. Hacker is the recipient of two awards for outstanding contributions to client service as a result of these efforts.
While in retail pharmacy programs, Mr. Hacker supported manufacturer initiatives to improve education and persistence for patients with the Eckerd Corporation.
Mr. Hacker received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Pittsburgh.
Nancy Pilcher, RN
Director, Program Development
As Director of Program Development, Nancy Pilcher is responsible primarily for program development in collaboration with manufacturer clients. Ms. Pilcher has more than 20 years of experience in nursing and the home infusion and specialty pharmacy industry in staff development, management and sales support.
Ms. Pilcher joined TheraCom in 1997 and has held various roles during the company’s rapid growth and expansion. Ms. Pilcher oversaw the development and operational implementation of various clinical programs offered by TheraCom as well as the quality and regulatory compliance efforts.
Ms. Pilcher attended Millersville State University and The Reading Hospital School of Nursing and is currently a member of the Infusion Nurses Society, Oncology Nurses Society and the Pulmonary Hypertension Resource Network.
Caroline H. York, MBA
Director, Marketing and Business Planning
As Director of Marketing and Business Planning for TheraCom, Caroline York is responsible for developing all outbound marketing efforts (including direct mail, broadcast fax, teleconferencing/Webcasts, sales efforts, and business meetings) as well as educational support materials for each product program. She works closely with each client and program manager to develop timely and targeted solutions.
Ms. York joined Caremark in 2002. In her first year with the company, she worked with several business units including Strategic Marketing, Trade Relations, Account Management, and Specialty Benefit Management. In 2004, she joined the Marketing organization for Caremark Specialty Pharmacy Services, where her primary focus was the Medicare effort. Ms. York implemented and developed pull-through strategies for a demonstration of the new Part D drug benefit, a unique program offering Specialty patients access to Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage in advance of the launch of the Part D benefit program. She remains heavily involved in the developing Medicare Part D marketplace on behalf of TheraCom.
Prior to her tenure with Caremark, Ms. York served as a Manager with Accenture Consulting in the Health Services business unit, where she conducted due diligence for clients contemplating mergers and acquisitions in the healthcare arena. Prior to that, Ms. York spent many years in academic medicine, managing cutting-edge research programs and grant funding, and developing educational programming for post-graduate training.
Ms. York holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH) degree in Health Policy and Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Master of Business Administration degree from the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania.
Bob Landers
Vice President, Specialty Pharmacy Relations
As Vice President of Specialty Pharmacy Relations, Bob Landers is responsible for business development with biotechnology and Specialty Pharmaceutical clients. His role includes the oversight and the development of long-term relationships with the manufacturer client through product support services offered by TheraCom.
Mr. Landers has 26 years of experience in the medical field to include the device, lab, pharmaceutical and specialty pharmaceutical industry. He has held roles in sales training, strategic account management and development, sales to include, regional, area VP and VP responsibilities. He join the organization from the cardiac device business that included upper sales management roles at both Guidant and Novoste corporation.
Mr. Landers earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from Providence College.
Scot Buchanan
Sales Director, Specialty Pharmacy Relations
Scot Buchanan is a Sales Director for Specialty Pharmacy Relations. His primary responsibility is business development with biotechnology and specialty pharmaceutical clients. His role includes developing long-term business to business partnerships within product support services) offered by TheraCom.
With 16 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, Mr. Buchanan has held position of varing responsibilities in Fortune 100 companies. He has held roles in sales, training, sales management, large account management, field operations, and sales leadership. He most recently was a Regional Sales Director with AstraZeneca, based in Dallas Texas.
Mr. Buchanan earned a BA from Baylor University with an emphasis in Business.
Adina L. Safer, M.B.A., M.P.H.
Vice President, Business Development, Specialty
Pharma Relations
Adina Safer serves as a vice president in the Specialty Pharma Relations department at Caremark. She has been with the Company since 2001.
Ms. Safer serves in a business development capacity for Caremark, working with specialty pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies on the West Coast. She provides these companies with consulting services and solutions around navigating reimbursement and distribution challenges in the marketplace based on her expertise in pharmacy benefit management, specialty pharmacy and Medicare arenas.
Prior to this role, Ms. Safer served as the vice president of marketing for the Specialty Pharmacy department at Caremark. Ms. Safer’s responsibilities included aiding in development of the market offering for the specialty pharmacy division as well as managing a $500m Medicare Part D demonstration program for the Company. Previously, she served in a business development and marketing capacity with AdvancePCS, which merged with Caremark in March 2004. Since the merger, her responsibilities have covered a broad range of areas including managing key marketing efforts as well as working closely with the physician strategy and Medicare initiatives for the Company.
Prior to joining the Company, Ms. Safer was one of the founders of an Internet healthcare company called Consumer Health Interactive. The company was ultimately sold to AdvancePCS and currently remains part of the Caremark e-Business division.
Ms. Safer has more than 15 yrs of healthcare, technology and finance experience. She has worked as an investment banker for Lehman Brothers and Shattuck Hammond Partners, as well as a healthcare consultant with Arthur Andersen’s consulting division.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia University in New York and holds both a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Public Health from the University of California at Berkeley. Ms. Safer was a recipient of a Rotary scholarship for public health, which allowed her to spend one year in Senegal, West Africa where she studied public health at the Universite Cheikh Anta Diop and worked with the ministry of health in Dakar.
